There’s no need to introduce this gem of a sparkling wine: the 2002 Dom Ruinart. A great vintage, the spring weather was pretty much perfect, followed by a long, warm summer with just enough rain at the end of August. Followed by a warm September, this provided the perfect conditions for ripening the grapes.

Made from 100% Grand Cru grapes, this 80% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir has been aged on lees for 9 years, providing a round, sumptuous texture on the palate. The lovely pink tone is reminiscent of the more exotic fruit flavours on the palate that leave you wanting another sip.

Disgorged in June 2014 with 5.5 grams per litre dosage, the 2002 Dom Ruinart Rosé includes 20% red Pinot Noir from Sillery and Verzenay. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of brioche, mirabelle plum, dried orange rind and fresh pastry, it's full-bodied, broad and gourmand, with a creamy mousse, delicate phenolic grip and excellent balance. This is one of the finest renditions of this cuvée that I've tasted. Drink 2019-2040
