Latour 2017, Don't Get Fooled Again!
|
|

Latour hasn't been part of En Primeur for years, but it clearly felt a need to offer overpriced initial release of wine. Mind you, 2022 Bordeaux En Primeur set this bar exceedingly high, and I reckon 2023 will attempt similar ridiculousness... but I digress. 2017 Latour is the definition of "Rating Inflation", scored by some at 98 points even though this vintage overall was decidedly poor. The Bordelais seem to still believe that interest rates are still at zero. Comparing different vintages, and factoring in the cost of financing them, means such pricing of new releases is nonsensical, even if you bought into the rating inflationary 98 pointer (.... hmmm). 1996 truly sticks out as a bargain in this chart, tasted over the years, its greatness is well stress tested and yet its effectively offered at £70 over 2017 with storage costs alone, and incredibly CHEAP with 21 years of financing factored in!
